These carvings are annual favorite that many people collect a few more each year. I try to stay true to the legends of the European Christmas gift givers. Each one has a unique story and is one of a kind handmade piece.

Hello David, your work is awesome! I’m interested in St Nicholas and feel several of your pieces hit the mark. In your images above on the Santa Claus page, can you explain to me the story behind the man in a blue suit, with a stick and a star carrying a box and a hint of red peaking out at his feet? What would you charge for a piece like that? Thanks, Dale
Dale Sorry for the late reply, Thank you for the interest in my inerpretations of St Nicholas. The blue figure with the star is based on the Polish StarMan. A local priest would dress as the starman and carry canvas star lit with a candle. He would visit local homes and reward the children with nuts for reciting bible verses. My pricing varies based on the detail needed, scale and amount of design time needed. A figure like the Starman would be around $145.
No worries David. Thanks for the Polish StarMan background. I had no idea about him so I looked up his history and it’s quite enlightening!
I would like to obtain an exact version of the StarMan shown on your website(hooded with a blue coat, little red on the bottom above the foot, staff with star, carrying a lantern).
I don’t know what height your ~$145 version would be but I’m thinking 12 inches would be fine for me, making it standout. Do you have set heights that are more convenient to use? Are your pieces generally weighted on the heavier side? I would worry about someone knocking it over. Something to think about or I can work on.
In terms of time, end of year would work for me especially during Christmas time. But I can certainly be okay with your schedule at hand.
If you have any recommendations about the making of the piece, please let me know.
